Getting enough sleep (8 hours a night) can help you function your best the next day. So here are 3 tips for making sure you get that much needed rest and have the energy to take on the day.
No Technology Before Bed
Our smartphone devices give off what scientists call 'Blue' light. This type of lighting can have an effect on our minds that tricks us into thinking it's day time, and not night time. Too much screen time before you go to bed can keep you up long after you have laid your head to rest. As a common rule, be sure to turn off all devices at least 30 minutes before turn off the lights to go to sleep.
Set a timer
We always associate an alarm with waking up. Why not set an alarm at night to let you know when it's time to go to bed?! Sometimes we get busy at night, whether we get caught up reading or watching TV and forget what time it is. Set an alarm for 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep as a reminder that it's time to get to bed!
Take Deep Breaths
Relaxation is always important to ensure you get to sleep on time and quickly. Try taking some deep breaths to calm your mind and body. With a slow inhale through your nose and a slow exhale through your mouth, you are telling your body to relax. Go ahead, give it a try!
